‘Léa & Nicolas began in 2016 with the desire to make a living by doing something with our hands, together.’

’Léa & Nicolas is the work of Léa Behr and Nicolas Hoang, who surprisingly came together as a couple despite their backgrounds : a childhood in Alsace, a childhood in Vietnam, a valedictorian, a dunce, a rooted person, an immigrant. These differences have forged our life choices, that of the artisan life today, that of immigrating together to Montreal in 2010 and are reflected in our objects.’

We work red stoneware like porcelain. We value raw clay while striving for finesse. Our ceramics are brutalist in their bareness and naturalist in their materiality.’

‘Each object is handmade in our studio in Bedford, Quebec, where we emphasise the simplicity of the means employed and favor the diversity of techniques: wheel throwing, handbuilding, coiling, moulding and slip casting; all in the service of exploring forms and textures. The making of each of our objects is driven by the search for harmony between its functional and sculptural properties.’

‘We combine our training in applied arts, crafts and architecture with our experience as graphic designer and architectural technician. Between us, we've drawn up plans for schools, houses and mines, designed graphic identities and interactive installations, and chosen to make ceramic objects together as a way of connecting with the world.’
